I’ve finally taken the plunge. Those closest to me know that I’ve been toying with the idea of writing a blog for a long time. The motivation behind this has changed over the years – as have I – but whatever the inspiration at the time, I’ve just always wanted a little space on the internet to call my own. It will come as no surprise to most that right now my life is pretty much all things motherhood. I became a mum (although I didn’t really – and sometimes still don’t – feel like one) 21 months ago, when I found out that I was pregnant. Fast forward to today and my 1 year old daughter, Kate, is my latest motivation for wanting this small space on the internet. Over the past 12 months I’ve learned more about myself than I have in my almost 28 years of life. Having a child and becoming a parent was the most overwhelming experience of my life. An experience I thought I was prepared for, but in reality had underestimated in its entirety. This is why I’ve started this blog. So much has happened in a single year, that I want to document the magic…and the unmagical, lest I forget either of them.
Here at Kate’s Cradle (an ode to Cat’s Cradle – that random game we used to play using string and our fingers back when life was waaaay simpler) I hope to encourage new mothers at the start of their crazy-beautiful journeys, honour the veteran-mums out there and celebrate the permanent ‘on switch’ and the grand unfussiness of motherhood…and all it brings with it.
